Engineering, research, art and design, entrepreneurship and management, law, and finance are just a few of the fields in which the United Kingdom is a global leader. The United Kingdom’s reputation and legacy as a worldwide center for scientific research attract some of the world’s most brilliant minds. Despite having just 1% of the world’s population, the United Kingdom is responsible for 8% of all scientific publications.
The United Kingdom is known for its high educational standards. Many universities founded in the 12th century have gone on to become world leaders in education. They have a long history of offering high-quality teaching and are considered pioneers in the field. If you are planning to study in the United Kingdom, you are in for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You will fall in love with the UK and its inhabitants, whether you are looking for the hustle and bustle of London or the lovely countryside of West England.
Nowadays, the UK has been one of the best destinations for students for many years for higher education. UK universities such as the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge have stood the test of time. They have inspired students to become outstanding professionals and responsible citizens. The UK also has Nepalese soldiers and other Asian communities with people from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. The UK attracts many students from all over the world every year.
In the UK’s education system, public universities dominate higher education, where every university has its specific entry and autonomous requirement body for its students. The government is not responsible for the structure of every university. However, an entity independent of the university looks after the university’s financial and strategic health.
The universities in the UK are divided into colleges of various subjects, which means applicants must be sure to study before applying to a college in the UK. Unlike in other countries such as the US, where applicants have a choice to choose electives and switch over to some other majors at the end of the first year, colleges in the UK, irrespective of being autonomous bodies, expect the applicant to adhere to the choice of subject. Therefore, applicants either apply at each college because they are interested in or use a centralized (standard) system that allows them to apply at various colleges simultaneously.
In addition to colleges and universities, which are institutional bodies and well-recognized conferring degrees in both bachelors and master’s levels to its students, some institutions belong in the category of ‘listed bodies.’
Listed bodies do not possess any authority to award degrees; however, they offer some programs focusing on vocational and pathways that can directly lead to employment.
In the UK, usually, the degrees take one year or less to complete than the duration it takes in the USA, i.e., Bachelor programs full-time study usually is of 3 years, and masters programs are for one year. The academic calendar differs from institution to institution. Some universities which follow trimester or quarter terms might have extended the scholastic period, starting from September or October till May or June.
Most universities follow a semester academic pattern, and a few other universities follow quarter or trimester patterns. The universities and colleges give importance to the curriculum’s content and intrigue them to perform in-depth research. Typical degrees offered by UK universities and colleges include Higher National Diploma, Diploma of Higher Education, Undergraduate, Postgraduate (both taught and research), Ph.D., and vocational courses.
For Nepalese students, studying in the UK varies according to the institution, program, and location you prefer. Undergrad students’ tuition fee ranges from £10,000 to about £16,000 if you are looking beyond the schools under the Russell Group, a group of the elite 24 Universities. Famous universities like the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, London School of Economics and Political science, and so on come under the Russel Group universities, which is expensive.
Living in London is relatively higher than living in any other location. Based on the latest research, student expenses are about £9,200 if she/he loves to live outside London and £12,000.00 if he/she is considering living inside London.
